On September 4, 1962, at EMI’s Abbey Road Studios in London, the Beatles recorded six songs including “Love Me Do” and “P.S. I Love You,” which became the two sides of their first single. They began work on Mitch Murray‘s “How Do You Do It“, which Martin had chosen for them, but they disliked the song and wanted to release an original composition. It was later recorded by and became a hit for Gerry and the Pacemakers instead. The Beatles rendition remained unreleased until 1995 when it appeared on “Anthology 1.”
