“The King of the Moondoggers”

Today in 1951,DJ Alan Freed,the man that coined the the term “rock and roll”,  launches his Moondog Rock n’ Roll Party on WJW in Cleveland Ohio. Freed called his show “The Moondog House” and billed himself as “The King of the Moondoggers”. He became internationally known for promoting a mix of bluescountry and rhythm and blues which turned out to be some of the ingredients for rock and roll.

In 1970,“Woodstock,” the soundtrack to the film about the historic music festival, tops the U.S. chart. It is the first triple-LP to do so.
