Among other events and things today,  Elvis Presley stops at Memphis Recording Service to record two songs, “My Happiness” and “That’s When Your Heartaches Begin,” as a birthday present for his mother. Sam Phillips, who ran the service, notes that Presley has a good feel for ballads and should be invited back.

In 1915 Legendary Bluesman William James “Willie” Dixon is born Vicksburg, Mississippi. Among other songs he composed, “Little Red Rooster”, “Hoochie Coochie Man”, “Spoonful”, “Back Door Man”, “I Just Want to Make Love to You”, “I Ain’t Superstitious”, and “Bring It On Home” Dixon’s songs are covered by Bob Dylan, Cream, Jimi HendrixLed ZeppelinFoghat, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones, Queen, The Doors, The Allman Brothers Band and The Grateful Dead.
